Julie Dale Gervasi, age 58, passed away on Sunday, April 14, with her family by her side after a courageous battle against Crohn’s Disease. Born on October 8, 1965, to Marilyn Leigus Slater and Sydney Dale in Middletown, Connecticut, Julie was survived by her husband, Vinnie Gervasi of East Hampton, stepdaughter Kerri Wilson and her daughter Kaley of Higganum; mother Marilyn Slater of Killingworth, stepfather Richard Slater and his wife Donna of Wallingford, her sisters Deb (Bill) Bensenhaver of Rockfall and Cindi (Stephen) Pietrzyk of Killingworth, her nieces Sara, Charley, Samantha, and Kailey, and nephew Steven and his wife Michele. Julie graduated from Coginchaug Regional High School in Durham in 1983 and was well known for working many years at Guida’s Restaurant in Middlefield. She also worked at Lloyd’s Restaurant and Pizza King, opening it up for breakfast for a short time. She loved the restaurant business and made many great friends through that process. Julie then moved into the security field and moved out to Las Vegas where she spent years having a blast working at the Venetian casino and meeting celebrities, politicians, and making so many more friends. After having enough of Vegas, she came back home and worked in security at Colt Manufacturing and ESPN for a time. Julie’s smile was infectious, and you felt blessed to be in her presence. She was quick with a kind word, stubborn beyond belief, and loyal to a fault. She loved her pets, and her family and friends so much, and never lost her sense of humor. The family would like to thank the caregivers and health professionals from Middlesex Hospital’s South 7 for their kindness and compassion. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, crohnscolitisfoundation.org.
